The Georgia Institute of Technology, represented in Europe by Georgia Tech Lorraine, and the CNRS created in 2006 the Mixed International Unit, Georgia Tech – CNRS: UMI 2958. Two large engineering schools, the Arts and Professions ParisTech – Metz (ENSAM) and Supélec, and two universities, the University of Franche-Comté in Besancon and Paul Verlaine University of Metz, are associated members. It is the first structure of this kind in France that should allow substantial advances in the domains of secured telecommunications and nanotechnologies.
