Created by 4 Universities in Lorraine in 2007 and designed to support and promote international and interdisciplinary research in humanities and social sciences in Lorraine. La Maison des Sciences de l'Homme works on projects, bringing together researchers and laboratories in Lorraine (associated with other researchers, French or foreign).

It has been a member of the national network of 21 Houses of Humanities since 2007 and was granted the status of USR (Service and Research Unit 3261) of the CNRS in 2009.

Its scientific programme is organized into six research themes :

Axis 1 Borders, Territories and exchanges
Axis 2 Languages, texts and documents
Axis 3 Institution, innovation, knowledge
Axis 4 Memory and Culture
Axis 5 Health, quality of life and disability
Axe 6 Science and Cognition

Its missions, serving the academic and scientific community of Lorraine are :

- The promotion of interdisciplinary working, including joint programmes for researchers, teams and laboratories, structured in scientific themes ;

- Hosting researchers and professors, French or foreign, on projects ;

- Dissemination and communication on projects of MSH Lorraine ;

- Support for the development, management, monitoring and evaluation of research projects of MSH Lorraine in the context of large regional, national and European projects ;

- Assistance in organizing large academic or assessment projects of international importance within the framework of the projects of MSH Lorraine.

In 2010, MSH Lorraine is financing 46 projects of interdisciplinary research, with significant support from a team of 12 people (7 from Nancy and 5 from Metz), led by two directors.

 

The MSH Lorraine also works closely with the Regional Council of Lorraine and the State

 

(Regional Delegation for Research and Technology) as part of the activities of the centre for scientific and technological research 'Man and Society'.
