Par(en)thèse : support from the LTS school at Nancy 2 for doctoral students

Le 17/11/2011

"Breaking the solitude of being a doctoral student" is its vocation. Par(en)thèse is an association is aimed at all students at the Langages, Temps et Sociétés doctoral school of Université Nancy 2. It is designed to accompany them in their research work and their professional integration.

Often installed in offices or laboratories, doctoral students evolve alone… Working from this observation, the Par(en)thèse association aims at offering to accompany them to bring to fruition their thesis and their professional integration. "Whether at the beginning or end of their course, attached to distinct disciplines, they evolve in a world that is very fragmented where information circulates difficultly although they all ask themselves the same questions. The principal objective of Par(en)thèse is to create a link between them and to share their experiences" explains Julien Biaudet, president of the association and doctoral student in sociology at Nancy 2. Created in 2007, Par(en)thèse brings together doctoral students from the Langages, Temps et Sociétés (LTS) doctoral school at Université Nancy 2. This school counts more than 230 doctoral students in 21 specialities.

"Par(en)thèse gets its force from its members, each person brings their competences and experiences"

Right through the university year, Par(en)thèse offers conferences, meetings and workshops destined for doctoral students, young doctors and all students interested by research activity. How do you get a CIFRE convention, a research allocation or a grant to finance your years of doctoral studies? How do you carry out your documentary research? How do you write and present your thesis? To provide practical information and help each person envisage their post-thesis life, the association organises its "doctoral students day" once a year. It also orchestrates mock vivas and viva preparation for candidatures "because you have to prepare for a doctorate well before signing the thesis charter".

Composed of 27 members, Par(en)thèse brings together doctoral students, young doctors as well as 2nd year Masters students, future doctoral students. "All doctoral students the LTS doctoral school are members by right and membership is free" states Julien Biaudet. For the president, the future of Par(en)thèse is already at the Université de Lorraine level.

Humanities : an in-company thesis thanks to the CIFRE
A CIFRE thesis offers a job leading to a degree to a doctoral candidate and makes it possible for a company to benefit from the competences of a public research laboratory. Crossed accounts.
