Europe 2020 : a new economic strategy for Europe

At the beginning of March, the European Commission launched the Europe 2020 strategy. According to its President José Manuel Barroso, it “formulates what we need to do today and tomorrow to put the EU economy back on track”. This strategy has 3 priorities : encouraging intelligent growth (promoting knowledge, innovation, education and the digital society), creating an “inclusive” society (strengthening work market participation, acquiring skills and fighting against poverty) as well as developing a green economy.

Get recruited with a Young Scientist Contract

The Inra takes care of its doctoral students. Since 2009, the Institute for Scientific Research in Agronomy (Institut scientifique de recherche agronomique) offers Young Scientist Contracts (Contrats Jeunes Scientifiques (CJS)). They are part of the association framework between the INRA and the doctoral college and that of the research body partnership. This contract has a 3-year thesis allocation, topped off by a post-doctoral contract for up to 2 years.

An “Open Archive” launched online last February, MédiHAL receives its content from researchers and teaching researchers. Each can upload iconographical scientific documents (scanned images, digital photographs, scanned photographs, computer graphics or digital simulations…) MédiHAL was developed by the Center for Direct Scientific Communication (Centre pour la communication scientifique directe (CCSD)) and the National Center for Digitalizing Visual Resources (Centre national pour la numérisation de sources visuelles (CN2SV)), with the support of the CNRS’ Very large ADONIS facilities.

The IOT@ project working

The IOT@ project consists of realizing a very high-speed interconnection of the Greater Region universities’ networks. Through the Lorraine Region Inter-university Computer Science Resource Center (Centre Interuniversitaire de Ressources Informatiques de Lorraine (CIRIL)) initiative, the IOT@ infrastructure will enable better data sharing and should be completely operational by September 2010.
