The University of Lorraine ranks among the Top 300 Worldwide Universities

A first : the University of Lorraine has just been admitted to the Shanghai 2011 list. This year, the UdL made the Top 300 (between the 201st and 300th position) of this worldwide ranking of universities published by the Jiao Tong University in Shanghai. This is the best ranking every achieved by an institution in the Lorraine region. Last year, Nancy 1 University ranked among the Top 400. Unfortunately, the performance of French universities is poor and France only has 21 institutions in this list. Number 41, the highest position, is held by the University of Paris-sud, just ahead of Paris 6 Pierre et Marie Curie. American universities (Harvard, Stanford, MIT and Berkeley) and Cambridge in the United Kingdom are still at the head of the list. Often criticised, this classification uses six indicators: number of Nobel prizes and Fields medals, number of articles published in Nature or Science, number of citations in the Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Science Citation Index
