The Laboratory of Physical Chemistry and Microbiology for the Environment (LCPME) is a multi-disciplinary unit which focuses its research on the study of mineral and biological interfaces in aqueous media. Its main objective is to better understand the reactivity of solid surfaces (mineral phases, organo-mineral hybrids, biological objects) in contact with aqueous media, aiming to take account of the structural and reactional heterogeneities of the systems studied on different spatial scales, with potential spinoffs in the areas of environment and materials.

Subjects of Research and Applications

The unit's activities can be divided up into four transversal themes all bound by the common denominator of interface (solid/liquid interfaces and the interface between disciplines):

  • Theme 1: Structure-property relationships of oxides and hydroxides.
  • Theme 2: Reactivity of functional materials ((bio) organo-mineral hybrids, mesostructural solids, nano-objects).
  • Theme 3: Bio-interfaces: Physico-chemical mechanisms at the dynamics of the living.
  • Theme 4: Viability and infectiveness of micro-organisms.
