Carnot Institutes

Research at the benefit of the socio-economic world

Nationally recognized, the Carnot label distinguishes the public research structures that collaborate closely with the players of the socio-economic world. Encouraging partnerships between laboratories and businesses, this system favours the transfer of technology and the development of innovation. Research in Lorraine has been rewarded by 2 Carnot labellings.

Established in Nancy, the Carnot Energy and Environment Institute in Lorraine (CEEIL) associates the Jean Lamour Institute 2 research federations, Jacques Villermaux and Water Sun Earth and the Regional Technology Transfer Pole (RETTP) federation of 7 Technological Resources Centers and an Industrial Technique Center. The CEEIL works to develop clean and safe procedures that are energy efficient for optimal energy resource use and for the conception of innovative materials and intelligent products.

The second Carnot Institute in Lorraine, the IC ARTS (Research Actions for Technology and the Society) is affiliated with the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers - Arts et Métiers ParisTech (ENSAM) and its management structure of partenarial research, ARTS. Today it is composed of 23 laboratories or research teams spread over 9 geographic sites.

The Carnot label is attributed by the State for a renewable period of 4 years ; it translates in particular into the allocation of supplementary financial means. In Lorraine, the Carnot Institutes are in addition actively supported by the Regional Council.
