European and international networks

Research open to the world

In Europe and beyond, the laboratories from Lorraine invest themselves in international research projects. Their teams have, for example, taken part in certain key projects of the seventh Framework Program for Research and Technological Development (PCRDT), principal European instrument for financing European research.

Associating 11 large European research laboratories to 7 industrial partners, IMPULSE has the ambition of devising cleaner and safer chemical factories by relying on micro technologies. In the region, this project is supported by the National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine (INPL). Initiated by the CNRS, in the CMA (Complex Metallic Alloys) project12 European countries cooperate around the development of new alloys.

The KMM network of excellence has the objective of creating links between research and industry in the domain of intermetallic materials. This network brings together 6 SME-SMI, 4 large companies and 24 research institutes including the Paul Verlaine University of Metz. Relying on the INRA of Nancy, the interdisciplinary European network EVOLTREE studies the impact of climatic changes on the forest ecosystems. IMPULSE, CMA, KMM and EVOLTREE have been supported by the 6th PRCD.

Registered in the framework of the INTERREG III program of European initiative, the Minewater Project is interested in the development of the geothermic production of energy of former miner. The local player in this European project is the regional delegation of the Geological and Mining Research Bureau (BRGM).

In Lorrain, the ARCUS program establishes the university and scientific exchanges between the region and Russia. ARCUS Lorraine-Russia translates by the development of research projects (nanomaterials, environment…), the exchange of students and post-doctorands, support for education and innovative projects…

The Lorraine Region accompanies projects internationally within the framework of the cooperation agreements signed with 6 foreign regions but also on an exceptional title in other regions of the world (areas with a high growth rate, projects meriting Lorraine expertise and know-how). Assistance in identifying partners, financing actions, putting together a subsidies application, making connections... Regional support can be practiced further along (support for exploratory or preparatory missions), putting a project together or during the realization phase.
